Some years ago, I was thinking about the future of microstock and asked a friend: How long will it last? Won’t come a time when we’ll have too many images of everything? He said: No, think of the new technologies, new fashion trends… We’ll always need updated pictures with people. He was right but I think it’s even more than that.

Microstock is about people and art. Every person is unique and can express his own vision in an original way, based on his own experience, feelings and knowledge. And yes, we do need that, especially in mass-media or design!

The image of the week is actually a proof that simplicity and creativity can work together incredibly well! Its name is “Vector of a butterfly” and comes from Daniel Marcus.

What’s so great about this picture?

  1. It’s a vector! Not only that it fits any size from thumbnails to huge outdoor adverts but it can be transformed or reused easily as starting point for new illustrations or even animations.
  2. It’s full of strong concepts: creativity, freedom, design, nature/environment!
  3. The colors are simple and nice: blue and black. This way, it could easily fit to lots of backgrounds.
  4. It has copy space, a valuable quality from the point of view of advertising companies.
  5. It’s catchy, as it’s an unusual posture of a butterfly, flying out from a paper.
  6. It’s funny and positive!

How could we use it?

  • A huge outdoor advert for almost any company, from communications and beauty products to medical services! It needs only a smart and simple message. Just as some quick examples: “No need to worry about your finances! We set you free!” (Bank ads); “When flying becomes beauty and joy…” (Airlines); “Delicate, as you need it” (beauty products for women)… to be continued J
  • Indoor inspirational and motivational posters to be put on the wall.
  • Book covers, especially for design books or coloring books for children.
  • The main image of a campaign for making people respect nature and environment.
  • Original wallpapers for blogs or websites. You can easily crop it and use it for any format.

Just an example of how we can easily transform this image to an horizontal format, just perfect for the wallpaper of a blog.
