On the 31st of October, the last day of the month people around the globe celebrate Halloween or All Hollow’s Eve. It is a time of celebration and superstition that dates back to the ancient Celtic Festival of Samhain. The Celts used to celebrate the new year on the 1st of November. This day marked the ending of the summer and the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter, a time of year that was associated with human death. The Celts believed that on the night before the new year (31st of October) the veil between the two worlds of the living and the dead was lifted and the ghosts of the dead returned to walk the Earth. To commemorate the this day, the Druids (the Celtic priests) used to build huge sacred bonfires where people gathered to burn crops and animals as sacrifices to the Celtic deities. During this celebration, the Celts wore costumes usually animals heads and skins and attempted to tell each other’s futures.
Today Halloween has transformed into a commercial holiday, just like all the other ones, being adopted in many countries where people throw parties where they dress in scary costumes, watch horror movies or go trick or treat. It is a holiday that allows people to be someone different for one night.

What’s so great about this image?

1. It is a vector therefore you can edit it to your liking very easily without destroying the quality.
2. It is made up out of three banners that can be used separately or together.
3. The drawings on the banners are not too aggressive but they still have a scary look making them liked by both adults and children.
4. The great amount of copy space: you can write your message on each banner.
5. The colors are very warm and friendly to the eyes.

How could we use it?

  •  Printed out as stickers and labels for different Halloween products or name tags.
  •  The banner with the pumpkins allows the person who buys the vector to use this one separately in a non Halloween related matter like a label for a pumpkin jam, a pumpkin chutney, pumpkin seeds, etc.
  •  Websites design, logos and layouts, headers for blogs.
  • Comic books, magazines and book covers, also interior.
  • For Halloween party flyers.

I decided upon the image of the week based of the recent protests against the cyanide mining at Rosia Montana in Romania. Rosia Montana is a commune in Alba County.  It is located in the Valea Rosiei, through which the Rosia River flows. The rich mineral resources of the area have been exploited since Roman times or before. The state-run gold mine closed in late 2006 in advance of Romania’s accession to the EU. Gabriel Resources of Canada plan to open a new mine. This has caused controversy on one hand over the extent to which remains of Roman mining would be preserved and over fears of a repeat of the cyanide pollution at Baia Mare and on the other, over the benefits that mining would bring to this poor and underdeveloped part of the country. According to some reports, the project would use as much as 12,000 tons of cyanide annually, which is more than any mining project in Europe, a quantity that would not only infect the waters and the land there, but in the whole Romania and all the other Balkan countries in a mere 15-20 years from the starting of the project. It would be one of the biggest ecological disasters of all time, leaving a country dry and dead. Over the last 11 days people started to protest, gathering 1000-3000 people each day, culminating with over 15 000 on Sunday afternoon in a huge march through more neighborhoods. The protests started as the government decided to vote a special expropriation law to get the people at Rosia Montana out of their houses so the mining project could start. This law breaks constitutional laws. It breaks property laws for the people in Rosia Montana, heritage laws and clean environment laws.
This is just another example how people decide to kill this planet for money, leaving only distruction and deaths behind.
The simplicity of this image by creativeapril carries the message of how simple it would all be if we all united for a better future, our future, the next generations future.

What’s so great about this image?

1. It has a very simple composition with a powerful message, of protection.
2. It has a lot of copy space where you can write your own messages, of even complete it with your own drawings.
3. It can be used as two different images, by cutting the “Protect me” sign out of the image. So we have a simple background with grass and another one with the message and the butterfly.
4. The message “Protect me” is in a word bubble case, making it look like the nature – represented by the grass – is sending the message to us.
5. The design of the butterfly makes it look like green leaves, showing that everything is part of nature, all living things, that we must protect in order to keep the harmony and our own health.
6. The colors are simple and calming, making the image very positive.
7. It raises awareness about ecology and the stay green concept.

How could we use it?

  •  Environmental and ecological campaigns.
  •  Inspirational posters to be put on walls inside your house, office or even in a pub/restaurant/club.
  • The main image for an activism campaign.
  •  Website and blog wallpapers and layouts.
  •  For magazine covers and articles regarding the current situation with pollution and ecology’s place in saving the earth as we know it.
  •  Book and magazines covers, also as a main image for an article in newspapers, magazines, blog, etc.
  •  Outdoor adverts.

Summer is almost gone, with just a few days left for us to enjoy and autumn is making its first steps with the falling of the tree’s leafs and the chilly wind in the morning and night. Soon the rain will start showing its face more often and more aggressively, melancholy installing already. Even though i am a big fan of summer, i never feel the sadness of its disappearing, because autumn holds a big piece of my heart, because of the beautiful colors, of the refreshing rain and least but not last, the return of the pupils to school. I’m one of those people who couldn’t wait for the 1st day of school. Now i’m looking back at those moments with melancholy and can’t help myself but smile and have a warm cozy feeling while looking at this vector by cienpies.

What’s so great about this picture?

  •  It is a vector, therefore it can be modified in ways a normal illustration can’t.
  •  It has a great composition: the open book as the treetop of the tree of knowledge, the two different colors of the background: black for the ground where the roots are and brown for the blackboard, science exercises and the eye-catching red color if the tree, plus a simple and suggestive writing: Back to School.
  • The great amount of copy space: you can write your message on the book’s blank pages, on the backgrounds and the tree.
  • The colors are simple and combines each other perfectly making an image with such a complex composition simple and sophisticated.

How could we use it?

1. Books and notebooks covers.
2. Layout and backgrounds for websites/blogs.
3. An advert for educating people towards the importance of schooling their children, especially in cities and villages where the percentage of education is very low.
4. School flyers and brochures.
5. For an educative ecological campaign – The painful process of cutting a tree in order to make paper.
6.  An advert for the importance of reading books.

I came across this image by Sergey Nivens and saved it on my PC. Looking through folders i couldn’t think of a better image to become the image of the week.
One of the most interesting things about people is that most of us think we are in perfect control of ourselves and forget the fact that we are influenced daily by others and different factors. More than that, we influence others as well. The great part about this is that we are in a constant learning process and we benefit from these type of interactions whether we are more the masters or the puppets in different situations. The key is to keep an open eye and be conscious about the role you are playing.

What’s so great about this picture?

  • The colors and the editing of the image are flawless.
  • Great conceptual image
  • It has copy space where you can add your own text.
  • It’s complex and has four characters in it which brings dynamism to the story.
  • It’s eye-catchy and the models are playing their roles very good.
  • It brings out the difference theme between men and women: which one is a better manager?
  • It shows the relationship between an employee and the boss. The man in formal outfit is clearly in a higher position in the company, probably the woman’s superior. The man ruled by the woman is handing the paperwork to the one ruled by the man.

How could we use it?

1. Covers for books and magazines, also documenting different articles.
2. Image for a training business program.
3. An advert for a business school.
4. Image for a fashion campaign. The man is formal dressed and the woman casual smart.
5. An advert for a personal development program.
6. An advert for a manager training internship.
7. Indoors motivational posters, either in a working space or in the comfort of a home.
8. Desktop wallpapers, banners and layouts for a website.

People long to be at home, but home is not only the physical place, the box made out of concrete and windows, but a state of mind in which you feel the most comfortable, your sacred place. Home is defined as a place where one resides. But there is more to it than that. This particular saying emphasizes the fact of home being an escape. A place where you can relax and just forget your troubles.

Zffoto has a great portfolio with very beautiful illustrations and this image made me think of both the house and the home one has and the ways we can protect them. You see, in this life we must protect what’s dear to us, from the people we love, our families, our belongings and last, but not least, our house and home.

What’s so great about this picture?

  • The colors are very bright and draw attention to the image and to the “product” that it will be used for.
  • It has a lot of copy space where you can write your own text.
  • It is very easy to cut the subject out of the background and use it separately on different backgrounds if you please.
  • It has a strong concept, that of protecting your house and home. The umbrella represents the protection that you can offer to your home.
  • The color red that is the most used color in this image emphasizes the very importance of protection.

How could we use it?

  1. For an insurance company.
  2. Real estate investments and promotions.
  3. For companies that make products designed to help you protect your house.
  4. For pest control adverts.
  5. For book and magazines covers, also interiors.
  6. Websites design, logos, layouts and the likes.
  7. Desktop wallpapers and also printed posters.
  8. Bank loans for houses.
