Only days from Christmas, let’s take a deep breath and make sure we enjoy this busy, wonderful time!

As often as possible I try to browse through recently received images, and then I click on an image and from there into a portfolio. This procedure gives us a good overview of the images we have at YAY. Sometimes I see an image that just reminds me of something. Today, that something was today. The image just reminded me of how the feel of the weather was this morning.
This photo by ibphoto gave a perfect example of how the light and temperature was this morning. Cold, clear and crisp.
You can just tell how embarrassing some animals find it to be dressed up as Santa’s little helper. But they’re so cute! If you want a good laugh, check out the Christmas section of “lol-cats”. I laugh until I cried, and then I laugh some more. The text for the dog image is from this site. Photo by studioportosabbia
Ever thought about making your own Christmas card? Or Birthday card? Or an anniversary card for a loved one? YAY now has over 48 000 vector files that fit this purpose perfectly. And now, just before Christmas, we’ve seen a huge spike in downloaded vector-files. So, you ask yourself: What’s a vector file?
In vector graphics information is stored as a collection of geometrical shapes. That means that you can open a vector graphics file and render it as large as you want. You can also change geometrical values without distorting the image or loose quality.
At YAY we have both EPS and SVG vector files. EPS stands for Encapsulated PostScript and is the filetype that the Adobe program suite mostly support. EPS-files can be opened in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, as well as CorelDraw, GIMP and InkScape. All these programs can also save convert the EPS into JPEGs or your preferred format. SVG stands for Scalable Vector Graphics and is the preferred vector file for web-applications. All major browsers support SVG. However, SVG is not supported in Photoshop. Though CorelDraw, Illustrator and Inkscape has native support.
InkScape is a program you should look into if you’re working with vectors and are in need of a free program. It is distributed under a free software license and is quite capable of doing almost everything you need to do with vector files.
So, I’ve picked a few examples to give you an idea of how vector files look:
The last couple of years have been good for the cupcake. And no wonder, when you look at how detailed and beautiful they are now-a-days. This looks nothing like the cupcakes I used to eat when I was a kid.. This christmas cupcake is from photographer Ruth Black.
